If you mess up, 'fess up.

Confessing about one's own mess ups is a dying art in the world today. It is also called taking responsibility for one's own actions. It usually means that you were wrong doing something. But, come on, who wants to ever admit they were wrong?

People have become so protective that they are ready to take all the credits but never the responsibility for their wrongs. This is because everyone thinks they are right and the entire world is wrong. But that's not true. Right and wrong is always a point of view. It depends on the cause for every action we do.

Who should be responsible? I feel everyone is responsible for whatever they do, whatever the circumstances are; because everyone has a choice. From parents to their children, from teachers to students, from managers to employees,  from the government to the people, everyone is responsible.
But it has become the tendency of human beings to deny from the responsibility they have. Forget taking responsibility for others, first take responsibility for yourself. What have I done? That's the question one should ask. But no; children blame their parents for their messed up life, students say the teacher has not taught us well when they fail in exams, employees say the manager has been impartial to them and finally people say the government is responsible for all the problems in their life.

What if we take responsibility? The world will be a better place to live in. People will be happier. Owning responsibility makes you more trustworthy and people will bestow their entire faith on you even if you failed a couple of time earlier. Your credibility increases and no one will hold grudges against you if you fail again. Because you will own the responsibility of doing so. And deep down your mind you will be thinking of doing things better the next time.

Can we share responsibility? Yes, definitely you can! You cannot do everything in this world  alone and take responsibility for all the good and bad outcomes. You need to delegate your tasks to others so that they can take some responsibility and grow like you. But its much better when someone asks for a helping hand. When someone takes responsibility for a task, what effectively happens is that they’ll tell you ‘hey, don’t worry, I have this covered’. This means that you can sit back, relax and only have to manage your part. It builds a level of trust and bonding within people and the result is provenly brilliant.

"We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future." ~ George Bernard Shaw

  1. Great Blog. You have given a way for growing up as responsible individuals with a brave heart for confession of mistakes. Our failures are not the result of others' mistakes. Life and growth is not about complaints but about understanding our own worth.
