Why ARGO deserved an OSCAR?

After days of pondering why Argo got the Oscar when there was a patriotic Lincoln on the bylines, I finally realized why. Drama, History, Patriotism, CIA, Hostage Situation, Hollywood, Sci-Fi, and intense suspense - Argo had it all.

The plot: On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top “exfiltration” specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Switching between real footage and movie depictions, Argo was one of Ben Affleck's best. 

Tense, exciting, and often darkly comic, Argo recreates a historical event with vivid attention to detail and finely wrought characters. Argo proves again that the CIA can actually pull off any situation and come out with all glory.

Accompanied by high quality direction, screenplay and story, the fine acting of Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, and the 6 American's whose life was at stake made Argo a delightful watch and proves again what serious film-making is all about.
